Elynor Walcott of Wally’s Honored as Inaugural Boston Jazz Luminary

The Jazz Square Celebration on September 28 was joined by a special guest, Grammy award-winning jazz drummer, producer, and artistic director/founder of the Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice, Terri Lyne Carrington, who presented the inaugural Boston Jazz Luminary Award to Elynor Walcott, the owner of Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club.  As Carrington puts it, “Elynor has welcomed a wide range of styles and maintained a long-standing institution in Boston. I can see no one better to honor.” In presenting the award, Carrington called Walcott “a beacon, when we think about the past, present and future of jazz in this city.” Learn more about Walcott’s remarkable leadership and Wally’s legacy of preserving music and culture in Boston here and see a recording of Jazz Square dedication with remarks from Terri Lyne Carrington and Elynor Walcott here.
