An illustrated, story-driven talk tracing Black “freedom days” from African resistance over the last 500 years, through colonial New England, to Juneteenth in the South. Using Boston history as anchor, we follow how freedom was practiced, named, and remembered before it was recognized by law. The talk closes with Juneteenth’s later recognition in Massachusetts—freedom not as a moment, but as a long Black tradition. Our presentation is built on engagement and responsiveness – moving at a pace that allows for in-depth exploration and encourages participant interaction. The big idea? It’s a conversation, and questions are welcomed and encouraged.
